A College of Commerce at the University of California was originally conceived by Arthur Rodgers, a Berkeley graduate and well-traveled businessman in 1883. It took another 15 years for the nation's first college of commerce at a public university, to be born.
Haas is named after former Levi Strauss & Co. President and Chairman Walter A. Haas, Sr., who was a 1910 graduate and lifelong supporter of the Berkeley business school, in 1989.

Set in a picturesque location, studying at Berkeley offers every advantage of having San Francisco as its neighbor. In addition to Silicon valley, dozens of Fortune 500 companies, Berkeley also offers other enticing locations like wine country of Napa and Sonoma counties, open beaches, seaside towns, Yosemite park, skiing destination (Lake Tahoe), top ranked restaurants, Chinatown and many more. The Bay Area is home to several venture capital firms, biotech and digital media industries as well as technology companies.
Designed by the renowned architect Charles Moore, the Haas School building is a three connected buildings set around a central courtyard. The complex features a a comprehensive career center, an ultramodern computer lab, a large business and economics library and a café. Classrooms, seminar rooms and lecture halls are well connected and also includes wireless computer access.
